Sustainable Work Report

Gi Group Holding 2022 Sustainable Work Report

July 18th, 2023,

“Through our services we want to contribute, as a key player and globally, to the evolution of the Labour Market and to emphasize the personal and social value of work.”

This is our mission – and our recently published 2022 Sustainable Work Report, outlines the progress we’ve made towards the realization of this mission.

Our report describes and highlights the Group’s actions, as well as presenting the plans and the results achieved so far. Vitally, it demonstrates just how our Corporate Social Responsibility strategy is strongly embedded throughout our governance and business operations—and how we face the challenges of the moment to help People, Companies, Society, and Institutions.

For Gi Group Holding, promoting and realising work that is sustainable means making a concrete commitment to ensuring that work

  • Is decent and safe.
  • Is capable of nurturing and enhancing people’s employability.
  • Generates satisfaction for both employees, employers, and their companies.
  • Pays due attention to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Uses natural resources carefully without any kind of exploitation or waste, thus safeguarding them for the future.

On the basis of these considerations, in 2023 Gi Group Holding elaborated a new version of its Sustainable Work Manifesto.

Gi Group Holding is increasingly committed to aligning its growth as a multinational organisation, with its corporate responsibility and sustainability goals. Both endeavours coexist with a priority of meeting the needs of all Stakeholders.

In response to the Group’s constant evolution and its publication of a new Code of Ethics and Global High-Level Policies, we have reorganised our CSR governance bodies specifically dedicated to the definition and dissemination of our CSR strategy.

Our quest for sustainability is also being pursued thanks to the activity of Fondazione Gi Group. This was established in 2010 and through its own Scientific Committee and an Observer Group, aims to disseminate and support the development of the culture of work in all its forms, as well as to facilitate the inclusion of marginalised individuals in the world of work, with priority attention to young people and women in critical situations. In 2022 Fondazione Gi Group took on the status of a Third Sector (not-for-profit) Entity.

Gi Group Holding takes home huge awards haul https://www.gigroupholding.com/uk/gi-group-holding-takes-home-huge-awards-haul/ https://www.gigroupholding.com/uk/gi-group-holding-takes-home-huge-awards-haul/#respond Thu, 29 Jun 2023 17:24:52 +0000 https://www.gigroupholding.com/uk/?p=8421

Our team has been celebrating after winning five industry awards at two prestigious awards ceremonies in June.

Our Group Learning & Development Manager, Emma-Louise Taylor was recognised for her dedication to enriching the careers of her colleagues with the ‘Rising Star of the Year’ prize, presented at the 2023 British Training Awards.

Our extensive professional development work ensures that all our people are given the opportunity to secure the career progression of their dreams, with dedicated plans put together to help them achieve their goals.

Having been with us since 2005, Emma has worked as Scunthorpe’s Gi Group Branch Manager, as well as over a decade spent overseeing recruitment at the branch. Emma then moved into training, and was a Group Trainer, before becoming our Group Learning & Development Manager in April 2022.

On accepting the award, Emma said: “I’m incredibly passionate about the professional development of our fantastic team at Gi Group Holding, and I’m absolutely delighted for not only my efforts, but the team’s hard work to be recognised through this award.

“We will continue to deliver thorough and varied training programmes for our people to benefit from, and I cannot wait to see the continued growth of the company in the future.”

The Employee Benefits Awards next saw us recognised four times. The esteemed event celebrates the accomplishments of the HR community, and by the end of the night we were the toast of the room, having won: ‘Best Benefits to support work-life balance and hybrid working’, ‘Best use of benefit to support diversity, equity and inclusion’ and ‘Best benefits to support menopause’.

The wins highlight our outstanding employee benefits programme, which includes supporting families and new parents, building an inclusive environment, embracing flexibility, inclusive healthcare benefits, promoting wellbeing, rewards and incentives.

We were then deemed by the esteemed judging panel to be the best of the best, receiving the final award of the night, the coveted ‘Grand Prix’.

Our People Director at Gi Group Holding, Marcelle Stewart, commented: “To receive these awards, all marking our people benefits and professional development, is an excellent achievement, and really is a firm marker of where we are as an employer.

“It made us incredibly happy to see an individual, in Emma, rightfully named ‘Rising Star of the Year’, at the British Training Awards. It is a much-deserved prize and one which I’m sure she will cherish after all of her hard work.

“Then the Employee Benefits prizes recognised all the ways in which our People team have revolutionised our employee benefits programmes, placing diversity and inclusion front and centre. Our ‘More than Work’ employee promise gives all our people across our group companies—Gi Group, INTOO, Marks Sattin, and Grafton—several ways to enrich their lives – whether that’s creating space for precious time with their families; or financial support with fertility treatment; or neurodiversity assessments; or providing a flexible environment of trust and autonomy where employees can work from anywhere for four weeks per year (provided they get the job done).”

Gi Group Holding celebrates 50th strategic acquisition marking 25 years of steady growth and expansion

With the addition of The Bridge to Gi Group Holding’s HR Ecosystem, the company makes its 50th acquisition and further strengthens its service offer.

Just a few months after its acquisition of Encore Personnel in the UK, Gi Group Holding has purchased The Bridge—an HR technology consultancy focused on building and scaling up digital capabilities for multinational businesses. This is the 50th acquisition the business has made.

Founded in 2017 in Santiago de Chile, The Bridge Social offers clients a global network of creative, technological, and digital professionals, built on the promise of creating meaningful connections between companies and clients. The acquisition will allow Gi Group Holding to expand not only its regional presence, but also strengthen its offering in the HR technology space. Indeed, The Bridge Social’s cutting-edge technology, combined with Gi Group Holding’s expertise in recruitment and staffing, will provide a unique and comprehensive solution for clients looking to optimize their Technology, Design, and Data science professional teams.

Over the years, Gi Group Holding management has pursued a measured, strategic approach to business growth: developing both internal company services and talent, while also acquiring new businesses whose service and product offerings complement and enhance the Group structure. This holds especially true when it comes to delivering the best services possible for Gi Group Holding clients and candidates.

Throughout our company’s history, strategic investments and acquisition have advanced our capability to grow and be resilient: even when faced with challenging market ebbs and flows. Our most recent 2021 results are remarkable, thanks to earnings contributions from the entire Gi Group Holding community amounting to 3.2 billion EUR in revenues (up by more than 30% against the 2020 fiscal year).

Gi Group Holding made its first acquisition way back in 2005 buying Fiat’s employment agency Worknet, making the Group the largest Italian-owned agency at the time; with turnover of 320 million EUR and 190 branches. Only a year later, it completed its first foreign acquisition by purchasing Germany’s Mumme Personaldientsleistungen GmbH, and in 2008 its first extra-European company purchase with the buy-out of the permanent and professional staffing service agency, Elixir. During that same year, the Group took over Brazil’s S&L Recurso Humanos, marking its first acquisition in Latin America, and completed further international expansion to China, France, and Spain.

Just three years later Gi Group would acquire R4S, giving the Group a presence in the UK. In the mid-2010s, Gi Group Holding began making a series of strategic acquisitions to expand its service portfolio: it bought TACK & TMI in 2016 giving the company an international opening to Learning & Development services and in 2018 it acquired Grafton, a brand dedicated to the development of candidates and their professional profiles.

In 2022, Gi Group Holding purchased EUPro which significantly elevate the Milan-based group’s footprint and capabilities in Switzerland and the Principality of Lichtenstein, becoming number one in the Ticino Canton. Furthermore, Gi Group Holding took a further step with the acquisition of CVO Recruitment and Simplika, which allowed the Group to be present in Estonia and Latvia, strengthening its presence in the Baltic region.

In the last two years, the Group has made a couple of strategic, technology-focused acquisitions: first with its buy-up of the JobToME a Programmatic Job Advertising Solution company in 2021 and then, this year, by purchasing The Bridge Social.

“With all our business buy-ups and acquisitions, there is always a clear strategy to why we seek to acquire specific companies. This ranges from intriguing and client-beneficial product offerings on to access to new markets or the delivery of technologies that will streamline our work and service-delivery processes. At Gi Group Holding, we have always believed in a combination of organic (internal service-driven) and acquisition-based growth. As we reach the 50th company purchase mark, we are proud that this strategy has paid off and brought us a tremendous wealth of know-how, market access, and service + product innovation,” – Stefano Colli-Lanzi, Founder & CEO

We, at Gi Group Holding, look forward to sharing continued successes as our passionate team of professionals across the world, and from all the above-mentioned, successfully integrated businesses, work together to implement our strategic vision and make a difference for People, Labour Markets, and Society by being #MoreThanWork.

Gi Group won the award following its work as Official Recruiter for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Gi Group, one of the world’s largest HR solutions and staffing companies, is celebrating after being crowned “Recruitment Team of the Year” at the prestigious REC Awards 2022.

Gi Group won the award following its work as Official Recruiter for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Also noteworthy was the company’s nomination for another award: “Community Impact of the Year”, in recognition of the £1.3m of social value contribution it generated over 12 months as a direct result of its work with Birmingham 2022.

REC is the leading industry body for the UK recruitment industry, and the annual REC Awards celebrate the best in UK recruitment, showcasing the work of brilliant recruiters from across the sector.

Commenting on winning the award, Paulo Canoa, CEO and UK & Ireland Country Manager of Gi Group said: “We are delighted to win this prestigious award. Our work involved the assistance of end-to-end recruitment services for The Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, filling over 1,700 roles across multiple specialisms. This was in addition to training and apprenticeship programmes, which were also delivered by Intoo, part of Gi Group

“Importantly,” Canoa added, “the embedded recruitment team, led by Operations Manager Sam Vaughan, ensured the Organising Committee met its objectives, finding the right staff for the required roles. By employing many candidates from the region, and through our commitment to Diversity and Inclusion in our hiring process, we ensured that the local community felt the impact of Birmingham 2022 in a huge way.”

Gi Group provided a range of services to support Birmingham 2022, including job profiling, onboarding, training, and outplacement support. All Birmingham 2022 staff were offered support with the transition to the next phase of their career once the Games came to an end in August.

“All these aspects,” says Sam Vaughan, Operations Manager at Gi Group, “were key to securing a positive legacy for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. Winning a REC award is no mean feat. It highlights the great work of so many people—both within Gi Group and the Birmingham 2022 Organising Committee—to ensure the community in Birmingham and the West Midlands felt the full impact of the event.”

Clare Miles, Director of HR for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, said: “The Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games was a fantastic celebration of sport in the city, and brought generations of citizens together.

“The work of Gi Group in employing almost 1,700 staff for Birmingham 2022 helped ensure a smooth operation. The full range of services provided meant that candidates were fully looked after and informed throughout the employment process – especially with the transition to their next roles after the Games came to an end in August 2022.”

In awarding GI Group with the Recruitment Team of the Year accolade, the REC cited that they were: “impressed with [the] organisation of volume recruitment, and the commitment to recruiting locally”. They were also incredibly impressed with: “Outplacement services, and with how the team dealt with D&I and unconscious bias.”

Addressing the REC Awards 2022, Neil Carberry, Chief Executive of the REC, said: “Competition for staff in the UK has been a real challenge throughout 2022 and skilled recruitment professionals are making a real difference for both the companies and workers the support. In tough times, it is important to celebrate the critical service our recruiters provide to millions of people in the UK every day.

“This year’s winners were exceptional, showcasing best in class recruitment at a time when it’s needed more than ever. Congratulations to everyone involved!”

"We Stand For People," a global campaign in support of the ukrainian humanitarian crisis

The initiative puts into action the global resourcing and staffing company’s footprint and core business expertise to provide concrete refugee support.
Milan, March 2022

Gi Group Holding, a leading global multi-brand HR and staffing company responds to the alarming humanitarian crisis in Ukraine with the announcement of We Stand for People, a campaign that puts into action the collective power of the Group’s passionate workforce and closely-knit network. Over the past weeks, the project was developed with the objective to bring together numerous strategic actions that embody the values of this humancentric company. These include providing on-the-ground support to refugees, the creation of an online information and recruitment hub for job seekers from Ukraine as well as activating a global fundraiser in support of Fundacja Gi Group, the group’s foundation in Poland. These actions aim to contribute a grain of salt in positively impacting the lives of an estimated 3.5 million refugees who have fled Ukraine since February 24th this year (UNHCR figures).

Gi Group Holding & On-the-Ground Support

Gi Group Holding, which has two offices and 10 employees in Ukraine, moved quickly in late February as the regional conflict escalated, and made ensuring the safety and wellbeing of its staff there a top priority. Subsequently, through a dedicated Relocation Programme, four Gi Group Holding employees who asked to be relocated were moved to Poland and provided accommodation. The company also took action on-the-ground by setting up an emergency response operation coordinated by a Global Task Force as well as byan ad hoc Emergency Team in Poland. The Polish team oversees support activities in the country, where the number of refugees is estimated to have reached almost 2.2 million. The teams are in continuous communication with local governments, provincial and communal offices and are joining forces with other industry and employer organisations to optimize efforts; partners include The Polish HR Forum, Lewiatan Confederation and Employers of the Republic of Poland. The Group’s support for refugees includes dedicated contacts for individuals so they may obtain assistance through a Lviv-based 24-hour phone contact centre named HELP reachable via mobile, SMS, Viber and WhatsApp. The centre, run by Polish and Ukrainian speakers and managed by Gi Group Ukraine, provides information regarding transportation, accommodation, legal and visa matters, and more. This is further complemented by physical support points staffed around-the-clock by volunteers from the Gi Group Holding network, located in Przemyśl (near the Ukrainian border) as well as at the Company’s Polish offices in 28 cities. Gi Group Holding is also providing support at the Slovakian, Hungarian and Romanian borders – as well as through a dedicated aid depot in the Czech Republic. In these areas, assistance is offered refugees with basic support: transportation, accommodation, food, clothing, blankets, medicines, toiletries, baby products, etc.

Job Placement Assistance

Gi Group Holding’s hope is that refugees will be given the opportunity to thrive in their new realities. For this reason, leveraging its core business expertise, the company has developed an Open Jobs Website in Ukrainian (ChangeLives.gigroup.com) to connect refugees with companies across Central, Eastern and Western Europe offering qualified employment opportunities. To date, the Group has helped around 700 Ukrainian refugees find work (570 women / 122 men) with 80 companies in both Poland and the Czech Republic. The Group has also provided support to families by extending childcare services and school supplies for over 200 children.

Global Fundraiser

Furthermore, the Holding launched a global fundraiser benefiting the Group’s Polish foundation Fundacja Gi Group. Funds raised are being distributed to support refugees during their new employment within the Gi Group Holding ecosystem, to contribute to those being hosted in accommodations provided by employees, and to support other related charities. Information on how to donate can be found through the dedicated website, donate.gigroup.com. As a further show of support, Gi Group Holding kickstarted the fundraising effort with a €50,000 donation and will match each additional donation 2:1 (i.e. it will contribute €2 for each €1 donated). Stefano Colli-Lanzi, Gi Group Holding CEO stated:

I am immensely proud of Gi Group Holding for coming together and responding in a positive and concrete way during such a difficult moment for our world. My hope is that the We Stand for People campaign makes a small contribution to aid efforts for one of recent history’s most severe humanitarian crises. We stand with those who are fleeing Ukraine, and our thoughts and prayers go out to all those afflicted
